Perpetually affordable housing

We turn the lights back on.

Community Comfort buys vacant, stalled and distressed buildings and brings them back as homes that stay affordable, without depending on an ongoing government subsidy.

The problem we take on

Vacant Building Syndrome

Most of the buildings we take on have stood empty or half-finished for years. A dark building drags down the street around it, and the longer it sits, the harder it is to save.

We see those buildings as homes that haven’t happened yet. With local support and good management, a vacant building can bring life back to a whole neighbourhood.

How it works

From dark to lived-in, in three steps.

  1. Step 1: Acquire

We purchase vacant, stalled or distressed projects that other buyers have passed over.

  2. Step 2: Restore

We finish the work and bring in quality management, with energy-efficient, barrier-friendly design that adapts to tenants’ changing needs.

  3. Step 3: Sustain

Each building is set up to run without ongoing assistance, so it stays affordable for good, not just for now.

Why it lasts

Affordable on day one, and still affordable in year twenty.

Self-sustaining

Our housing doesn’t need an ongoing government subsidy. Projects are set up to run on their own, so affordability doesn’t disappear when a program ends.

Community-led

Our co-operative approach brings neighbours into the project. Local people help choose locations and want to see a vacant building come back to life.

Built for long stays

Good locations, energy-efficient buildings and barrier-friendly design mean tenants can stay as their needs change.

Spaces to share

Every building includes community space: a lounge, a kitchen, a place to meet. A building becomes a home when people know their neighbours.
